WILLIAM SPEER NAMED INTERIM DEAN OF UNLV COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
LAS VEGAS – July 9, 2009 – William Speer, Associate Dean for the College of Education, recently accepted the position of interim dean of the education college. The appointment became effective July 1, 2009.
Speer previously served as associate dean for the college of education. He is a mathematics education professor in the department of curriculum and instruction. Speer is also a professor emeritus of mathematics and computer education at Bowling Green State University, and a member of professional organizations including the Nevada Mathematics Council, the Nevada Association of Educators, the Research Council of Mathematics Learning and the School Science and Mathematics Association.
The author of “Today’s Mathematics: Concepts, Classroom Methods and Instructional Activities,” Speer has been the recipient of teaching, research and service awards at Bowling Green State University and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He is the recipient of the Christofferson-Fawcett Award for Lifetime Achievement in Mathematics Education and the George Mallinson Award for Distinguished Contributions to Mathematics and Science Education.
